The County Board of Commissioners is seeking applications for two volunteers to sit on the Wright County Water Management Task Force representing "Cities/Development Community" and "Lake Associations/Lake Improvement Districts."

The Water Management Task Force is a nine-member advisory body to the county board of commissioners, and works with the lead administrative agency, the Wright Soil and Water Conservation District.

The task force is charged with creating, updating, and implementing the water management plan to protect and enhance both surface and ground water resources and related land resources.

The cities/development community representative must either be a Wright County city administrator, a Wright County city planner, or other person with experience in Wright County's real estate development issues. Credentials must be provided due to the specificity of the position.

The lake associations representative must be a current member of a lake association or lake improvement district and preferably be endorsed by the Wright County Federation of Lake Associations. Current membership in a lake association must be proven.

To be eligible, the applicant must additionally be a resident of Wright County and must be approved by the county board of commissioners.

The term is for three years, after which the appointee has the option to request re-appointment.

Regular meetings are conducted the third Monday of March, June, September, and December at 7 p.m.

Special meetings may be at the call of the chair or county board. Task Force Members receive per diem and mileage reimbursement.

If you are seriously concerned about the water resources of Wright County, have a desire to learn about resource issues, and are willing to be an active participant in the water management process, call the SWCD office at (763) 682-1970 to apply.

Outdoor notes

Congrats to Renee Albrecht of Silver Lake, for winning the deluxe King Crow fish house at the Howard Lake Sportsmen's Club annual fishing derby.

The Lester Prairie Sportsmen's Club will host its Father/Son-Daughter banquet Friday, March 21, at Lester Prairie City Hall. Tickets are available from club members and at certain Lester Prairie businesses.

Dutch Lake has been hot lately. On the ice fishing side, Dutch seems to be the only real good news out there.

Charlie Radtke of Winsted nabbed a monster largemouth bass, and the crappie bite on Dutch has also been good.

The crappie bite isn't surprising, although Dutch, in my experience has always provided better action on northern pike than on any other species.

Don't forget to purchase your new 2003 Minnesota fishing license.

The walleye and northern pike fishing season on area lakes closed Sunday,
Feb. 16.
