Howard Lake’s Good Neighbor Days is fast approaching, and with it so is the annual Good Neighbor Day’s fishing contest.

This year the GND fishing contest will take place Saturday, June 27 on Howard Lake.

For additional information and registration forms, stop by Joe’s Sports Shop in Howard Lake, or call Denny Decker at (320) 543-2992.

Area fishing report

Reports have good panfish action on Waconia, Howard, Hydes, and the western bays of Minnetonka.

Also, the walleye and panship fishing on Swan Lake near Silver Lake has been good.

The sunfish spawn is pretty much over, and the fish are moving to deeper water.

Central MN burning restrictions lifted

Natural Resources (DNR) has announced that open burning restrictions have been lifted in Chisago, Isanti, Sherburne, and Wright counties in central Minnesota, effective June 17.

Restrictions for the two remaining counties, Anoka and Washington, were lifted June 19.

Drought-like weather conditions experienced in the past several weeks caused the reinstatement of restrictions.

However, recent rains have helped trees to continue the green up process and ground vegetation to absorb much needed moisture.

This change in the weather pattern has decreased the chance of wildland fires, so restrictions are being removed.

Open burning will be allowed for up to three days, with most permits issued for evening fires.

Permits may be obtained from local forestry offices or fire wardens.

Municipalities and some cities may enforce regulations that are more restrictive than those put in place by the DNR.

Be sure to check with your local authorities before burning.
