Robert W. Hertzog obituary, 9/12/06


Robert W. Hertzog, age 80, of Erie, Pa., died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006 at St. Vincent Health Center.
He was born in Glencoe, Jan. 28, 1926, a son of the late Louis and Gladys Heaney Hertzog.
Robert served in the US Navy in WW II and the Korean Conflict.
He was employed as a security guard for Fisher Security over the past year. He had previously worked for Dodsworth as a truck driver, and retired from Steris Corp in 1992, after 22 years as a senior buyer.
A member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Robert was involved in the Ushers Society, Scouting and as a eucharistic minister. Over the years, he was a volunteer at St. Vincent Health Center, Hamot Medical Center, and the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was a member of the National Association of Purchasing Management and the Election Committee.
Robert loved gardening, and his beloved dog, Fritzie.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Hertzog.
He is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Rita Conlon Hertzog; two daughters, Sheila Kemp and her husband, William, and Lisa Mizikowski and her husband, James, all of Erie, Pa.; a son, Robert Hertzog and his wife, Lori, of Morgantown, W. Va.; a brother, Gene Hertzog and his wife, Joan, of Alabama; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends called Thursday evening, Sept. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m., and also Friday, Sept. 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home in Erie, with a rosary service at 6 p.m. conducted by the Blessed Sacrament Ushers Society.
A prayer service took place Saturday, Sept. 16, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church at 10 a.m. Interment was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
